IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We are happy to announce that N836D is unscathed from the
numerous hurricanes that have directly impacted South Florida or
have skirted our coastlines throughout this hurricane season. In
addition, the impact in slowing the restoration progress from
the storm preparation has been negligible. The sheet metal
workers have made up the lost time working on weekends.
The sheet metal team is working its way to the middle of the
aircraft from above. The lower section has been completed to the
middle of the aircraft and they have begun work on the wing
section. In October we will begin initial work in the interior
of the aircraft beginning with the cockpit area.
In the month of August we received much unexpected publicity
from USA TODAY, THE MIAMI HERALD, and THE TAMPA TRIBUNE among
some of the newspaper articles and all of the local television
news stations. The reason for the publicity was that we, in
conjunction with Eastern Historical Foundation and Eastern
Financial Credit Union, had agreed to allow students from
Miramar High School to participate, on a volunteer basis,
assisting with some of the restoration at Opa Locka Airport.
These students gained valuable experience for numerous weeks
working hand-in-hand with Carlos Gomez and other Legendary
Airliners personnel.
Lastly, the unveiling of renowned Florida Historical Artist
Christopher Still and his 11’ x 16’ mural capturing the “Golden
Age of Aviation” at the Southwest Terminal at Tampa
International Airport. Chris used N836D as his model for this
amazing piece of art. We are all very proud of it.
Our sincere appreciation goes to all of the enthusiast and
supporters whom keep us motivated!!
